In partnership with The Center for Rural Engagement, we invite you to join master hoop net maker, Larry Haycraft, at the Brown County Public Library for a hoop net making presentation and demonstration.
Larry Haycraft is a fourth-generation hoop net maker from Petersburg, Indiana. The Haycrafts are known for unique and signature oval nets. Made to fish in shallow and swift running water, these nets are incredibly complicated to create. Larry’s son, Samuel, marks the fifth generation of net makers in this family. Larry continues to play a key role in the river fishing culture of Pike County, making and repairing nets for local fishers as well as for his own use.
This program is led by Jon Kay, Director of Traditional Arts Indiana. Learn more about the impact Traditional Arts has on your community as well as the partnership and future initiatives with Indiana University’s Center for Rural Engagement.
